Wanna Be Remodel – Weeks 5, 6 & 7

Wanna Be Remodel – Weeks 5, 6 & 7

Yeah, I know I’m a little behind on the Wanna Be Remodel updates. Probably because I’ve been working my butt off trying to complete it, which I have, and now I’m trying to finish up the items from the inspection report so we can close on it the middle of October.Oh, that’s right, I forgot to pass on that we hadn’t even listed the house yet, and it’s already sold! Seriously, and it wasn’t to a friend, or someone who truly knew what we were doing. It was a neighbor, who quite literally found out we were just days away from listing it, said his brother, a real estate agent, had clients that had been searching for years for a home with horse property. They came, they toured, and they bought. It was that simple, and that quick, and a full price offer at that, but the fun doesn’t end there. Nope, after the inspection was complete, we found out there was mold in the attic and a few minor plumbing problems. I swear this is the house that won’t let me leave–ever. Now the mold and plumbing issues are for another blog posting, maybe after I’ve cried at how much money we spent, but for now let’s show you the progress made and the completed project.

The bathrooms were in a major need of updating. The vanities were old, paint bad, and well just needed a general overhaul with the flooring to bring everything up-to-date. To update both bathrooms we purchased new vanities, mirrors, and flooring. And those lovely wood shelves, well I made them myself from the old fencing in the backyard, and only purchased the decorative brackets. I think they added a nice touch, don’t you? We kept the toilettes because they function and were generally sound.

In a previous posting I showed you the progress of the flooring before and after, but I hadn’t shown you the fully completed picture, till now.

Can you believe these floors are laminate? Yeah, it’s amazing how far laminate flooring has come, and how inexpensive it was. We laid the laminate in the major rooms of the house, the family room, kitchen, entry and the hall. All that flooring at $0.99 a square foot, well, you do the math. I didn’t use an underlayment because it already had it attached to the flooring, the only additional expense was the glue, and well, our labor wasn’t included in on it either. But that’s what happens when you do-it-yourself.

Talk about icky!! That kitchen was gross, I mean disgusting, I mean you needed a hazmat suit to just walk in there. Talk about an about face with the remodel! I don’t think I need to say much more than Wow!

Now the bedroom’s were revamped too, but they’re not as a dramatic change as the the other living spaces. They received new closet doors, paint and new carpet to freshen them up a bit.

And last, but not least by any means, is the front entry.

Now, tell me the truth here, who wouldn’t want to come home to an entry like this? Let’s just say that when I remodel these homes, I like to leave a little bit of my personal touch behind, and this is it for my Wanna Be Remodel. It’s also making me think I need to add something like this to my home…but not until I recover from this project and the next one…so maybe in the spring.

So I leave you with one last picture of my Wanna Be Remodel. All tidy and clean, just waiting for it’s new owners to come and show it some love…and Rockette the Chicken too! But that’s a story for another blog posting, or possibly even a new children’s book.
