Stunning bedroom makeover! – Reader Feature

Stunning bedroom makeover! – Reader Feature

I have a lot of friends, quite a few followers and DIY’ers that put together amazing projects, so I’ve started what I’m calling a “Reader Feature.” What’s this you ask? Well, this new feature will highlight what others are doing beside me, what projects my readers/friends/DIY’ers are taking on and turning out amazingly!

This week I’m going to introduce to you to my dear friend, Sandra. Sandra is not only an amazing friend but a lover of all things DIY like myself. Sandra and I have been friends for quite a while, and when she told me what she was going to do to her son’s room, I knew it’d be great. I also pestered her to allow me to share it on my blog. I’m pesky like that…so without further ado, take a gander at this stunning bedroom makeover!

One stunning bedroom makeover coming up!

Sandra started out with your basic builder’s grade walls in her newer home. When her daughter moved out, her son wanted to go into the bigger room, but she knew there were a few changes she wanted first. One being the light fixture was a bit girly for a twelve-year-old boy. And the paint color? She wanted to change that out as well too.

The first step in the process was to touch up the walls by filling the holes and adding new texture where needed.

Sandra first marked the walls off with the height desired for her batten and boards, then painted the upper portion of the walls a lovely shade of blue, (Sherwin-Williams Tradewinds Blue) and the lower white to match her batten and boards. Her sheen of choice was satin for the upper and semi-gloss for the bottom wall and boards.

She then attached the pre-cut boards to the wall. However, she’d recommend that you put your top plate board on first because even in newer homes the walls aren’t perfect. If you put the top plate on first, you can hide any differences on the lower half of the wall. Sandra used liquid nails and pneumatic nailer to attached the boards to the wall.

Once it was all attached to the walls, she filled the holes with putty and then caulked everything to give it a seamless appearance.

I think it turned out stunning! Don’t you?

Seriously, who wouldn’t want a bedroom that looked as classic as this one?

And that light fixture? I love it! batten board Sandra H006

This is a room that will take her son into the teenage years perfectly!

I’m loving it! Makes me want to put batten and board up everywhere! What about you?
