Project of the Day: Reuseable Party Signs

Project of the Day: Reuseable Party Signs

This is what happens when you need signs to direct people to say a graduation party in your backyard, and you don’t #1 – want to answer the front door 50 times, #2 – don’t want everyone trampling through the house, and #3 – want said guests to find their way to the backyard via the side gate that has a trailer blocking their line of sight into the party headquarters. Whew, that was a lot to say!

So I decided to create a few cute signs from leftover materials I had lying around from other projects. I used some chalkboard paint and  lovely chalkboard makers to create something unique and cute that also served a purpose. Not too shabby I think!

reuseable party signsSo I started out with a pile of materials…

scrap pile signsThis is what’s left from 2 pallets, spindles from my stair remodel, and what’s not pictured here are the old square spindles from my deck remodel 2 years ago.

yard signsI selected pieces of wood that purposely looked old and would have been of little use for other projects, and slapped 2 coats of chalkboard paint on them. The center sign was created from a cupboard door that I had lying around from one of our recent rental remodels. And the arrow, well that came from leftover material from the recent stair remodel. Cuz honestly, who doesn’t need a arrow from time to time? That’s what I thought…

After the chalkboard paint dried, I printed out the phrases/words I wanted for the signs and scribbled on the back of the letters/words with regular old chalk. I then placed them on the signs and traced over the outline of the letters/words with a pencil. It left enough of an impression on the sign for me to go ahead and use my handy dandy chalkboard markers to color them in. You can do them freehand, but lets face it, I’m not that good. You’ve seen my art work before, and we’ll just leave it at that…

I attached the signs to the old deck spindles using my pneumatic stapler, and then smacked them into the ground with a rubber mallet. And that cute no fishing sign on the end? That was just an extra I made from the wood pallets cuz the party was fishing themed.

The great thing about the signs? I can wash off the words/lettering and reuse them again, and again, and again…

Enjoy!
