So I know it’s been over a month since I’ve published a new post, but I do have a valid excuse as I was putting my 11th novel overall and 7th in the Timeless Series out. It takes time to put it all together and finding time for extra fun projects is sometimes thrown to the wayside. But the novel is out and doing well so it’s time to give you a fun, cheap and creative way to reuse/makeover any planting pots you may have lying around.

Here’s what I started with, an old clay pot that had seen better days. And when I say better days, I mean better days.

This one was looking pretty sad with a chunk missing from the lip of the pot. But none of that mattered since I like old and beat up things. The older, the more beat up the better. 

I had some leftover blue/turquoise paint from a previous project and whipped up myself a batch of chalk paint using 1/4 c plaster of paris, 1/4 c of warm water and 1 c of paint. Didn’t matter whether is was flat or satin, it all seems to do the job. 

Nice and wet here after a fresh coat of paint. I wound up doing two coats to make sure it was all covered.

And as you can see I painted inside the pot a little ways too so when the flowers were in they’d look nice. Then I added some dark wax to give it that great old antiqued feel. You could leave it as is if you wanted and add a clear wax, but I wanted to darken it up a bit.

Definite change in the appearance with the dark wax.

See that nice chunck missing out of the bottom too? Adds character!
